Things that have influenced me include tribal and ethnographic art, self-taught and vernacular expressions, and ancient art and mosaics. Embellishment, ornament, and pattern frequently show up in my work.

In the button pieces I've played with the idea of transformation. I wanted to recycle and reuse tools to play with their gender, disarm their functionality and embellish them in a transformative process of re-objectification: common consumer durables made intriguing, both visually and viscerally, crafted with a subversive intent.
